New Skylanders Game Confirmed For 2016 Release

Activision has announced plans to launch a new Skylanders game later this year, as well as Skylanders Academy, which is their new TV series being produced at Activision Blizzard Studios.

We know that it will star Justin Long (“Alvin and the Chipmunks,” “Ask Me Anything”) as Spyro, Ashley Tisdale (“Phineas and Ferb,” “High School Musical”) as Stealth Elf, Jonathan Banks (“Breaking Bad,” “Better Call Saul”) as Eruptor and Norm Macdonald (“Saturday Night Live”) as Glumshanks, but little has been heard since it was revealed last November.

The news came as Activision shared better-than-expected financial results for the first quarter in 2016. That saw them over-perform on guidance issued by the company in February, earning $108 million in revenue beyond what they had anticipated.

That saw their GAAP net revenue at $1.46 billion, compared with the $1.28 billion achieved in the prior year. Such success was spurred by revenue growth from digital channels, which reached an all-time quarterly record of $926 million – up 59 percent year-on-year and accounted for 64 percent of the company’s total revenues.

“This quarter we over-performed our non-GAAP February guidance by $108 million in revenue and $0.12 in earnings per share,” said Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick. “We have a strong core business and more opportunities ahead of us than ever before, and talent continues to be our greatest asset.”

He added, “We are grateful to be honored again by Fortune as one of the ‘100 Best Companies to Work For,’ moving up 19 spots in the ranking from last year. Our long-term growth prospects have never been more exciting and we are fortunate to have the most able, capable people to pursue them.”
