Now that the first Nintendo NX controller leak has been revealed as nothing more than 3D imaging trickery, the equally devious mastermind behind the second has also come clean.
It was a 3D printed model that had appeared in the admittedly more realistic looking photos, the creation having been comprised of laser cut black acrylic placed into a 3D printed base. Creator Frank Sandqvist has shared a video running through how it was made, and apologised if, in doing so, he had gotten anyone’s hopes up that it was real.
“I’m sorry if I got some people’s hopes up, but it seems most people were against this kind of design,” Sandqvist says. “So, maybe it’s just a relief to them that it’s fake.”
He explains that he runs a company with his brother that has access to a laser cutter and 3D printer, with which he “thought it would be funny to see how easy it would be to recreate that PhotoShopped leak in real life. Turns out, it’s pretty easy.”
He details the process, the reasoning behind adding labels, and shares that, as everyone claimed, the design is incredibly uncomfortable. Well, at least we’re now back to square one.
