The Pokémon Company International has announced the dates on which the 2016 European National Championships will be held, seeing Pokémon trainers battle it out at three cities across the region.

It has been 20 years since Pokémon first launched in Japan, and in this anniversary year an all-new category has been added that sees Pokkén Tournament featured in the Championships for the first time as an additional way to secure entry to the 2016 Pokémon World Championships.

The top Pokémon Trainers that reign victorious in Europe will be invited to compete at the World Championships in San Francisco, California on 19th – 21st August 2016, and will earn Travel Awards to cover the cost of flights and accommodation.

The Pokkén Tournament Championship Series will encompass multiple events held across Europe, with the top players earning an invitation to the Pokkén Tournament World Championships which will take place at the World Championships.

The Pokkén Tournament Championship Series at the UK National Championships will see competitors classed in two age divisions, while a Pokémon TCG National Championships tournament will take place between 14th – 15th May in Verberie, France.
