Admitting earlier in the year that they were well-aware of western demand for Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past and Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, Square Enix has announced that the Nintendo 3DS exclusive remasters will at long last receive a western release next year.

“We want to get them out here. We really do!!” Dragon Quest series executive producer Yuu Miyake had admitted. “The Dragon Quest games are very text-heavy, so the time and the cost it takes to localise these and do it well is quite something. Business-wise, we have to think quite hard whether we’ll make that money back from localising to North America. It’s always been a difficult decision. But the more you tell us, the louder the voices, the more likely we are to do it.”

It had seemed unlikely, but the Japanese publisher has seemingly heard everyone loud and clear – notably deciding to release each game in a year when Dragon Quest series will celebrate reaching its 30th anniversary.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past and Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King will release exclusively for Nintendo 3DS across Europe and North America in 2016.
