Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto has not only revealed that Pikmin 4 is in development, but that the game is “very close to completion.”

Such confirmation was made in an interview held in July, when the legendary game creator shared with Eurogamer: “It’s actually very close to completion. Pikmin teams are always working on the next one.”

The news was later reconfirmed by Nintendo, who clarified: “We can confirm that Pikmin 4 is in development but that is all we can confirm at present.”

What remains unclear is which platform Pikmin 4 will be destined for, whether that be Wii U, Nintendo 3DS or NX – which the company won’t be revealing until 2016.

Earlier in the year Miyamoto had suggested that he had “a lot of ideas” with where he would like to take the Pikmin series, although nothing had been decided at the time.

Pikmin 3 saw release as a Wii U exclusive in July 2013, ending a nine year wait after GameCube’s Pikmin 2 that saw release in 2004. However, Nintendo would later port the original games to Wii under their ‘New Play Control!’ brand.
