Nintendo to discontinue Mario Kart 8 Wii U bundle in Japan

Nintendo has announced that they will discontinue the Mario Kart 8 Wii U Premium Pack bundle in Japan, which had been launched last November to help drive hardware sales throughout the festive season.

It was unique in that Nintendo had offered consumers their only chance to purchase a White 32GB Wii U model, a decision that wasn’t replicated in western markets.

Nintendo has signalled that they will shortly discontinue its production. But while its time at retail will come to a close, the company will replace it with two Super Mario Maker Wii U Premium Pack bundles.

These will each contain a White Wii U 32GB, White Wii U GamePad, a downloadable copy of Super Mario Maker, and the game’s supporting Artbook. The only difference between the two, is that one bundle will add the Classic Colours Mario amiibo for an additional 1,000 yen (£5.15).

Super Mario Maker will release exclusively for Wii U in Japan on September 10th, and worldwide on September 11th.
