Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has continued to defend the lack of more distant surprises in this week’s Nintendo Digital Event by sharing that the company prefers to “focus on the here and now.”

By comparison, Sony stole much of the conversation surrounding E3 2015 through not only the return of the significantly delayed The Last Guardian, but by revealing Final Fantasy VII Remake and Shenmue 3.

But, while this drove much excitement, realistically these games are unlikely to be out until post-E3 2017, and Nintendo at this point would rather not tease titles to leave their fan base waiting for such an extended period of time.

“We focus on the here and now,” Fils-Aime explained to Bloomberg. “We’re not like other players in the space that might show a little bit of something that is going to be years in the making.

“It’s simply because we believe that in getting the fan base excited, we really want to satiate that excitement as soon as possible.”

That’s reflected in their upcoming releases, such as Yoshi’s Woolly World, Star Fox Zero, The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival.
