Yooka-Laylee adds new stretch goals as Kickstarter passes £1 million

In under 24 hours, Yooka-Laylee has not only smashed the project’s initial Kickstarter funding target but has achieved all initial stretch goals outlined by Playtonic Games.

Now sitting at more than £1.05 million, Playtonic have begun to add in “additional ‘dream’ extras” that they would like to include – so far namely being a Nintendo 64 shader mode, a ‘GK Rap + Video’ by Grant Kirkhope for the credits, and a developer walkthrough and commentary video.

Stretch goals already achieved have guaranteed that the game, projected to arrive in October 2016, will release across Wii U, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Mac and Linux simultaneously. Whereas local co-op and competitive modes, localisation, boss battles and more character designs by ex-Rare guest artists Kev “Kong” Bayliss and Ed “Mumbo Jumbo” Bryan will be added.

“Well, well, well. We went and made the audacious decision to go to sleep, and you lot smashed through all of our stretch goals! We can’t take our eyes off you for a minute, can we?” Playtonic Games write in their Kickstarter update.

“Now that we’ve raised an incredible £1 million ($1.5m!), Yooka-Laylee will be released day-on on PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, Xbox One and Wii U!

“Obviously we would like to offer our sincere thanks to everyone who has backed the project so far. Our intention from the beginning was to use Kickstarter as a means to improve Yooka-Laylee, and you’ve helped us shape it into one fine specimen.

“But we’ve not run out of ideas yet! Backers can be assured that the Playtonic team will deliver a complete and satisfying game package. However, given the opportunity and additional resources required, we have a list of additional ‘dream’ extras we’d love to incorporate.

“How about a developer commentary video? N64 shader mode? Hell, we’ll even get Grant Kirkhope to record a new ‘DK Rap’ for the endgame credits.”
