Nintendo beat out the competition to secure themselves Developer of the Year at The Game Awards 2014 tonight.

The company’s talented teams were up against Blizzard Entertainment, Monolith Productions, Telltale Games and Ubisoft Montreal in the category, although won for their efforts throughout the year.

The award was richly deserved, after releasing the likes of Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. Congratulations, Nintendo!

  1. So, they won a developer of the year award on a console that only 7.6 million people bought in 2+ years, and we’re supposed to be impressed by that? LOL!

I’ve been a Nintendo guy since Game & Watch, but Wii U was the straw that broke the camel’s back. So many silly games, the controller UI is so sloooooow. The graphic s are so last generation, online has all kinds of shortcomings, lack of achievements, lack of sports games (HUGE fail there!), underperforming 3rd party games followed by 3rd party support drying up in general.

I’m sorry, but I’m out. I can’t sit on the edge of my seat waiting for rehash #150 of Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong and exclusives like Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, or the next GameCube controller remake (WTF?).

Nintendo is living in the past, and they can stay there. I’m moving on. There is too much far superior gaming to be had elsewhere and I’m not going to deprive myself any longer.
