Nintendo of America have cause to celebrate, with the NPD Group reporting that Mario Kart 8 has now sold more than 1 million copies across the United States alone.

That makes it the second Wii U game to cross such milestone, with New Super Mario Bros. U now sitting at 1.69 million copies sold. Through the first seven months of the year, Nintendo say that Wii U hardware and software sales have increased by nearly 60 percent and more than 135 percent respectively, compared to the same period in 2013.

The company are now looking to Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, as well as their amiibo toys to drive the console’s further success.
