Wii production comes to an end in Japan

Within a short notice shared by Nintendo on their official website, the company has shared that “[Wii] production will soon end.”

Whilst hardly specific, it signals an end of an era for the console which did much to broaden the appeal of playing games to a casual audience – selling more than 100 million units worldwide, 12.7 million were sold in Japan alone.

That isn’t to say Nintendo aren’t keen to sell more, this past year seeing the company release the Wii Mini in Canada and Europe.
