Nintendo aim for success with new Wii U Family Set Bundles

Nintendo have announced their most concerted effort yet to attract consumers toward a Wii U purchase, revealing new “Play Immediately” Family Set bundles.

Set to release across Japan on October 31st, these each include either a White or Black 32GB Wii U console coupled with a generous platter of software and accessories. The first, priced at 32,800 yen (£207.50), sees purchasers also securing themselves Super Mario Bros. U, Wii Party U, a Wii Remote Plus and a 30-day trial for Wii Karaoke U by JOYSOUND.

Whereas the second, priced slightly higher at 34,800 yen (£220), sees your purchase similarly includes Super Mario Bros. U, Wii Party U, a Wii Remote Plus, and a 30-day trial for Wii Karaoke U by JOYSOUND, although adds Wii Fit U (with Fit Meter) to this. Although, it’s worth noting that you’ll need to buy a Wii Balance Board if you don’t already own one.

All software is pre-installed, as well as the fairly large system update that detracted from the experience at launch. Internet reaction has been fairly positive in relation to what the bundles deliver to consumers, although there are a smattering of critics who indicate the move as being desparate.

We’d choose to interpret it more as being a move to position the Wii U more effectively ahead of the Christmas season, and for that it has most certainly achieved well.
