New Nintendo 2DS announced, drops stereoscopic 3D

Nintendo have today made a surprising announcement, sharing plans to launch a new Nintendo 2DS next month.

Predictably from the name, this new handheld will retain everything that the Nintendo 3DS offers, playing both 3DS and DS software, but removes support for the stereoscopic 3D display. Rather than the clamshell design we’ve become accustomed to, the 2DS assumes a fixed, slate form design.

Nintendo have made such move a “an entry point” to experiencing the handheld experience, with White & Red and Black & Blue models available at launch alongside separate carrying cases. Contents are confirmed to include the 2DS, stylus, AC Adapter, SDHC Memory Card 4GB, and 6 AR Cards.

The Nintendo 2DS launches across Europe and North America on October 12th, priced at £109.99 ($129.99).
