Disney Infinity announced for Summer 2013

Disney Infinity has been announced, its reveal having previously been confirmed for an event held in Hollywood today.

Players are granted the freedom to embark on their own original adventures with much beloved characters from The Walt Disney Company and Pixar Animation Studios, exploring their favourite Disney and Pixar worlds.

Players can bring character figures to life in a virtual “Toy Box,” in which you will navigate through story-driven experiences each called a “Play Set.”

These will see you solving puzzles, battling enemies and exploring the iconic locations from world renowned Disney properties, with the opportunity to collect unique characters, vehicles and gadgets to store within your Toy Box.

You’ll then be able to create your own unique virtual world, adding in your favourite characters, vehicles, settings and accessories, with the ability to share with players online.

In a fashion similar to Activision’s Skylanders franchise, you can purchase an initial line of 40 collectible interactive pieces, 17 character figures, Infinity bases and Power Discs that will expand your potential play experience through unlocking new content and granting unique powers, customisations and gadgets for your characters.

“Disney Infinity introduces a new way to interact with the best of Disney on one game platform, both now and in the future,” explained John Pleasants, co-president at Disney Interactive. “With this innovative approach to gaming, Disney Infinity will bring to life new characters, stories and environments from The Walt Disney Company over time in a way that will delight fans and gamers alike.”

“Disney Infinity combines prominent Disney and Pixar characters and scenarios in a way that mimics how kids play in real life,” commented John Blackburn, vice president and general manager at Avalanche Software. “With our platform’s unique gameplay mechanics and innovative approach to user generated content within the ‘Toy Box’ mode, Disney Infinity will spark imaginations and provide endless hours of fun and creativity.”

Disney Infinity is due to reelase for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in Summer 2013.
