With the Wii U now under a week away from launch across North America, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has expressed his belief that Nintendo will need to lower the price of the console to compete.

To ensure that the new console can rival more cheaply available Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 bundles, a price cut may prove inevitable as Microsoft and Sony join in the next hardware cycle as expected.

“I always prefer lower pricing, so I can’t say I’m happy,” Guillemot explained to GamesIndustry International.

“I’m never happy when the machines are expensive. What we have to do there is remember that compared to an iPad, it’s cheap. With what it brings [to the gaming table] it’s cheap. But I hope they’ll be able to drop their price in time.”

Do you agree that the Wii U has been overpriced?
