2012 UK Pokémon Video Game Championships winner disqualified

Masters Interview

It has emerged that 2012 UK Pokémon Video Game Championship Master’s Division winner Ruben Puig Lecegui has been disqualified from the competition.

Such a decision followed rumours that spread after the weekend of a situation at a nearby hotel involving Ruben and his fellow Spanish competitors, which had resulted in members of the group being escorted from the premises by the police.

Ben Kyriakou, who previously came in 2nd place, has since been listed as the overall winner of the Master’s Division.

“The Pokémon Company International expects its players to maintain high standards of behaviour conducive to the family-friendly environment that we foster”, explained David Schwimmer, Pokémon Organized Play Manager, on the Smogon Community forum in relation to the reported incident.

“The Pokémon Company International conducts full investigations into any matters where we believe that a player has failed to maintain these standards, and take appropriate action when necessary. In this case, we have found that unacceptable behaviour did take place, and have taken the appropriate steps in response”.
