Nintendo have today officially announced that they are to begin a new range of budget software for the Wii under the title Nintendo Selects, due to launch across North America from May 15th and Europe on May 20th.

Such news follows an initial rumour that first surfaced at Kotaku, in which retail sources claimed that Nintendo had something in the pipeline – it turned out to be true!

Titles within the Nintendo Selects range, to be available across Europe, will include Wii Sports, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Mario Strikers Charged Football and Animal Crossing: Let’s Go To The City. Within North America, you’ll be able to choose between The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Mario Super Sluggers and Wii Sports.

Further to this, a new Mario Kart Wii Pack is due to release on the same day, which will contain a white Wii console, Wii Remote Plus, Nunchuk, Wii Wheel and a copy of Mario Kart Wii, with Nintendo also set to reduce the trade price of the existing Wii Sports Resort Pack that is current on the market. This includes a black Wii console, Wii Remote Plus, Nunchuk and a copy of both Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort on one disc.

Nintendo of America confirmed the price drop would see the Wii now available for $149.99, with a new European price point of £129.99.

“From the day it launched, Wii has let players of all ages and experience levels have fun with one another,” comments Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “The new suggested retail pricing for both the hardware and select games will help create more of these magical moments for even greater numbers of people.”
