IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak has confirmed that 007 First Light is now running on Nintendo Switch 2, but the developer needed more time “to get it where we want it to be.”

When The Game Business asked whether there’s a risk that a decision could be made to pause development on the port, like Take-Two unexpectedly did with Borderlands 4, Abrak responded: “It’s running on the Switch [2]. We must just admit that we want to make sure that it is as good as [it can be], like, I don’t want to hear, oh, it wasn’t a good version.

“So we just, to be completely honest, need a bit more time to get it where we want it to be. And, you know, we said summer, probably going to be late summer, right? But we’re going to get it out.”

He added: “Bond has a special place on Nintendo. And I promise I will do everything I can, and I can do quite a lot being the CEO, to get that in a great shape.”

007 First Light is a third-person action-adventure game that blends IO Interactive’s signature stealth and action gameplay mechanics, featuring a fully original, re-imagined origin story of a young James Bond.

You will step into the shoes of a 26-year-old Bond, a promising yet sometimes rebellious Royal Navy air crewman who is recruited into MI6, immersing them in the exotic and dangerous world of espionage captured in the films.

Bond’s adventures will take players all around the globe, coming face to face with allies and foes while choosing how they overcome obstacles and challenges, whether it be with brute force, cunning guile, or charming wit.

007 First Light will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 in Summer 2026.
