Wii U online services unavailable due to “technical difficulties”

Update #2: Nintendo Network services are now back online, with extended maintenance now scheduled for tomorrow.

Update: European and Australian Wii U owners have clarified that they’re also encountering the same issues across Nintendo Network.

Original Story: Nintendo of America have confirmed that all online services for Wii U are currently unavailable due to technical difficulties.

This means that Wii U owners will temporarily be unable to access the Nintendo eShop, join multiplayer sessions, or receiving any messages through SpotPass.

Such outage began today at 3:15am Pacific Time (10.15am GMT), with the company giving no indication as to how long it will take until services are restored.

Wii, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS services remain unaffected and are currently “operating normally.”
