How Satoru Iwata Helped Bring Pokémon To The West

The Pokémon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara has shared that late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata played an integral role in bringing Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue to western audiences. When Hiroshi Yamauchi demanded that it needed to happen, Game Freak were too busy developing Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver and so Iwata stepped in to formulate a plan to make it become a reality. “I thin...

Honest Game Trailers take on Pokémon Gold and Silver

We may remember them for introducing us to 100 new Pokémon and the Johto region, but Honest Game Trailers have offered their own take on Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver. Their satirical humour is bound to provide plenty of chuckles, lamenting that capturing all Pokémon was still a realistic goal in the Game Boy sequels. Similarly honest highlights point out how dangerous the adventure is for a 10-...

Donkey Kong Land III Review

Donkey Kong Land 3, as with its portable predecessors, once again provides an alternate take on home console counterpart, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble. Playing as Dixie Kong and her cousin Kiddy Kong, you must travel the lands in your hunt for the Lost W...

Donkey Kong Land Review

Shortly after Donkey Kong Country was released on the SNES, Rare announced that it would be bringing the whole experience to the Game Boy. This seemed like an absurd concept at the time, especially considering how Donkey Kong Country was seemingly pushing the home console to the limits, but in 1995 Donkey Kong Land came out and silenced any naysayers. Donkey Kong Land is a completely separate game...

Mole Mania Review

The Nintendo eShop’s Virtual Console service has really entered its stride within recent months, delivering little known classics that you perhaps didn’t previously know existed. Mole Mania, for myself at least, falls into such category. A confession that seemed ever the more embarrassing when I realised that it is a further creation from the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto. The 1997 Game B...

Kirby’s Star Stacker Review

It was in 1997 that Nintendo’s beloved pink protagonist found himself once again spun into the puzzle genre. Seemingly designed as a fusion of styles between Dr. Mario and Tetris, Kirby’s Star Stacker once again puts the player’s reflexes and strategic thinking under stain in a simple yet effective manner. In his continued efforts to outwit the dastardly King Dedede, the cuddly p...
