The Walking Dead creator and Skybound Entertainment founder Robert Kirkman has announced that his company has stepped in to take over the development and publishing responsibilities for The Walking Dead: The Final Season.

That comes after Telltale Games underwent a shocking “majority studio closure,” leaving a 25-strong team left “to fulfil the company’s obligations to its board and partners.”

The news had left The Walking Dead: The Final Season with an uncertain future, although “multiple potential partners” had reached out to offer their support. Now, Skybound Entertainment will complete the last episodes – with the hope that the original development team at Telltale Games will help to finish the story.

“We’ve successfully negotiated with Telltale Games for our company Skybound to come in and see Season 4 of the Telltale game to completion,” Kirkman explained at New York Comic-Con, Variety reports. “We can’t lose Andrew Lincoln and Clementine in the same year.”
