Nintendo has announced that a legendary vampire hunter and a fan-favourite villain have joined the fight in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, adding Castlevania series hero Simon Belmont and Donkey Kong Country antagonist King K. Rool to the mascot brawler’s character roster.

Simon Belmont’s signature weapon is, unsurprisingly, his whip, while he can unleash special attacks that stay true to the Castlevania series – such as his axe, cross, holy water, uppercut and Grand Cross Final Smash.

“His signature item is, of course, his holy whip, the far-flinging Vampire Killer. It leaves you open to attack and it’s a bit slow, but I think its average reach during normal attacks is longer than any other fighter’s,” game director Masahiro Sakurai explains.

His stage is Dracula’s Castle, with candlesticks that release an item when destroyed and will have stage bosses to help make battles more dynamic.

“When an attack hits one of the candlesticks, an item will appear,” Sakurai adds. “In this stage, bosses from across the Castlevania series will rear their ugly heads. They make Dracula’s Castle feel true to the world from whence they came.”

One such stage boss will be Simon’s immortal rival, Dracula. Eternally fated to wage war against descendants of the Belmont clan, Sakurai wouldn’t reveal what conditions must be met before he will appear.

The beloved villain from all three Donkey Kong Country games on the Super NES, King K. Rool attacks with a blunderbuss that can fire cannonballs at opponents and throws his crown – which acts like a boomerang.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide on December 7th.
