After announcing that their partnership with Archie Comics had come to a close, SEGA of America has announced that they have joined forces with IDW Publishing.

“This does not mark the end of Sonic in comics, but signifies SEGA of America’s decision to take a different direction for the series that will be announced at a later date. SEGA would like to thank Sonic’s amazing fans for their loyalty and passion over all the years.”

Now, partnered with IDW Publishing, SEGA is looking to start “a thrilling new chapter” for the blue blur in 2018. They add that creative teams are being formed and a publishing plan is underway, with writers and artists working to bring the comic book world of Sonic to life once more.

IDW Publishing has worked on licensed properties such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Goosebumps, The X-Files and My Little Pony,
