With the Nintendo Switch Console rumoured to have a 6.2″ 720p multi-touch screen, many have been left wondering whether the Nintendo Switch Dock will provide any improvement in performance.

Let’s Play Video Games seemingly has the answer, thanks to a source at Nintendo who is helping to organise the hands-on press event that will coincide with the Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017.

They have revealed that when the Console is connected to the Dock by USB-C, the components will run at a higher clock speed in order to output at a 1080p resolution on the TV screen.

When docked, video and power will be transferred over USB-C and an additional fan placed at the Dock’s rear will activate to help with keeping the Console cool. The Dock, which is said to be incredibly lightweight, has been designed in a way that the Console’s built-in fans can still vent heat when docked.

Nintendo intends to sell a standalone Nintendo Switch Dock after launch, pitched more towards those that have more than one TV screen in their homes.

The hands-on press events in January will have “near retail level hardware,” with each Console locked to playing a single game demo. Press will be encouraged to take the Console to a separate area to play the demo as a portable device, but are welcome to return to any Dock at the event.

Nintendo Switch will release worldwide in March 2017.
