Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon have been crowned the Famitsu Award 2016 Game of the Year.

The Nintendo 3DS exclusives were also able to score the Best Hit Award from the Japanese magazine, with Pokémon GO receiving accolades across three categories to win an Excellence Award, Movement Award and Rookie Award.

Monster Hunter Stories also won a Rookie Award, which the recent Nintendo Direct confirmed was heading westward later in the year.

We similarly shared praise for Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, concluding in our review: “Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon deliver the most striking evolution that the series has ever seen. This is the most ambitious that Game Freak has ever been, and the Alola region’s tropical paradise is all the better for it.

“Basked in sunshine, this is an adventure that celebrates everything that we have come to love about the series, while delivering a truly innovative Pokémon experience that successfully redefines it for a new generation.”

Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are now available exclusively for Nintendo 3DS worldwide.

[Thanks, Japanese Nintendo]
