Nintendo Switch System Update 6.0.0 Has Been Datamined

Red Nintendo Switch

Nintendo Switch system update version 6.0.0 has been discovered on the company’s server, and, as such, has drawn the attention of hackers that have looked to datamine its secrets.

Their discoveries have been documented on Reddit, and while there aren’t any particular surprises, show what we can expect when Nintendo Switch Online launches.

That adds the Save Data Cloud Backup option on the Software Information menu, and a slogan that Nintendo will soon use to advertise the subscription service in “More Games. More Features. More Fun.”

There are new player profile icons based on Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker characters, for Toad, Toadette, Wingo and Draggadon.

But, the most interesting addition comes in new controller icons for Nintendo Entertainment System (or Famicom) and Super Nintendo Entertainment System (or Super Famicom) controllers, suggesting that Nintendo may be planning to release a new line of retro controllers for the portable home console.

And, beyond that, Nintendo has continued to implement measures to counter exploits that look to circumvent the console’s security.
