Nintendo has revealed the unfortunate news that Mr. Resetti has lost his job in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Thanks to the upcoming Nintendo Switch exclusive introducing a new auto-save function, his role at the Reset Surveillance Center has been made redundant.

Ever since Animal Crossing on GameCube, Mr. Resetti would rant at players if they powered off their console, quit or reset the game without saving their progress – becoming increasingly frustrated the more times that it happens.

“I think this will be a positive thing for the player, because in New Horizons you can stop playing in the middle of your game and it’ll still save,” game director Aya Kyogoku explained to Mashable.

“But unfortunately because there’s no necessity to reset the game or reset button on the Switch, Mr. Resetti had a hard time. He was laid off from his position.

“We also believe that Mr. Resetti is looking for a new job after his layoff. So please look forward to that.”

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players will set out on an ultra-exclusive Nook Inc. Deserted Island Getaway Package.

This promises you the chance to enjoy a peaceful existence full of creativity, charm and the freedom to roll up your sleeves and make your new life whatever you want it to be.

That will see you collect resources so that you can craft everything from creature comforts to handy tools, working to set up a homestead that can be freely decorated – both inside and out.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 20th March 2020.
