Kingdom Hearts Switch Ports Remain Uncertain

It would appear that Square Enix has no current plans to port any Kingdom Hearts games to Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo Enthusiast had the chance to speak to Kingdom Hearts franchise director and character designer Tetsuya Nomura about the upcoming Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, which will be the first game in the series to come to the portable home console.

When asked whether any existing or new Kingdom Hearts games could also be on the way to the console, Nomura explained that there were no specific plans.

While Kingdom Hearts 3 was once rumoured to be coming to Nintendo Switch, after its release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One it sounds like the team explored porting it to Nintendo’s console. Nomura added that they had considered porting existing games in the past but had discovered that it was technologically challenging.

Nomura still believes that the Nintendo Switch hardware is appealing and has always wanted to create a game for the console. He also thinks that it’s possible that another game that he is working on – or perhaps was once involved with – could release on the system.

With The World Ends With You: The Animation to be made available on Funimation in 2021 and Nomura’s desire to create a sequel to the original game, perhaps that project has finally become a reality.
