Catch Pikachu With Surf In The First Pokémon GO Community Day

Niantic has announced the Pokémon GO Community Day, a monthly worldwide event that will celebrate the location-based game’s community.

It has seen as a chance for Trainers around the world to meet up, make new friends, and experience what it means to be part of the Pokémon GO community.

Once a month, Niantic will host a Pokémon GO Community Day event that stars a special Pokémon that will appear frequently around the world for a few short hours. And, if caught during the event, the Pokémon will know an exclusive move.

Trainers can look forward to other bonuses being in effect during the event, such as increased XP or Stardust. And, any Lure Modules activated during the event will last for three hours.

“We’re constantly blown away by the passion of Pokémon GO players around the world, and we hope that each Pokémon GO Community Day will help add to the excitement of local events and meetups,” Niantic writes. “Remember always to be alert and stay safe while playing and to be respectful of public spaces when exploring your community.”

The first Pokémon GO Community Day will take place on Saturday 20th January 2018, when Pikachu will be the special Pokémon. The electric mouse will know the exclusive event move Surf, and Trainers will earn double XP during even hours.

The event hours in each region, are:

  • The Asia-Pacific region: 12pm – 3pm JST
  • Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India: 10am – 1pm UTC
  • The Americas and Greenland: 11am – 2pm PST
