Nintendo and Square Enix have confirmed a release date for Bravely Default II on Nintendo Switch, which has been delayed into 2021.

“We originally announced that Bravely Default II would release in 2020, but more development time is necessary to ensure this RPG experience is the best it can be,” Nintendo explained

“Thank you for your patience, and we hope you look forward to setting out on your search for the crystals on 2/26.”

This sequel is a successor to the original Nintendo 3DS game, with the team behind Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler working on the upcoming Nintendo Switch project.

The all-new Heroes of Light will set out on a grand and glorious mission across The Continent of Excillant, which plays home to five mighty kingdoms.

Your adventure begins as the young sailor Seth washes ashore in one of these kingdoms. He soon meets Gloria, a princess who was forced to flee her kingdom when it was destroyed by evil forces that wanted to steal its elemental crystals.

You will also meet two travellers – the traveling scholar Elvis and the mercenary Adelle – who are “determined to decipher a mysterious and magical book.”

As if guided by fate, the four characters team up on their journey but will be confronted by Asterisk Holders. These enemies wield stones that allow them to take on Jobs such as Thief or Black Mage, becoming “infinitely more powerful” in the process.

The battle system once again emphasises strategy, leaving it to players to decide when to attack (Brave) or hold back and wait for a greater opportunity to strike.

You can use the Jobs granted by the Asterisks that you recover, and these can even be combined to expand your strategic options.

Your adventure will be accompanied with music from Revo (Sound Horizon/Linked Horizon), who had composed the Bravely Default soundtrack.

Bravely Default II will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 26th February 2021.
