Prepare to throw your Ferrari Testarossa’s canopy back next week as you speed across the countryside, with 3D Out Run bolstering the SEGA 3D Classics range.

The arcade classic let you journey across 16 possible routes, with players needing to make sure that they crossed checkpoints within the given time. It was the game’s cabinet itself that drew a lot of interest, with SEGA constructing Deluxe, Standard, Cockpit and Upright versions – the first two shifting in response to your steering, and whenever you crashed.

SEGA of Japan’s Yosuke Okunari and M2 president Naoki Horii participate in an extensive interview on the SEGA Blog, discussing Out Run’s origins and how they’ve painstakingly upgraded it for Nintendo’s trusty portable.

3D Out Run will launch exclusively for Nintendo 3DS through the Nintendo eShop on March 12th.
