The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild may very well be Link’s first quest in which Nintendo does not force the player to get the Master Sword. But, for those looking for some guidance, how exactly do you get your hands on the Master Sword of Resurrection?

How To Get The Master Sword In The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

The sword that seals the darkness is an entirely optional weapon in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and, while players can journey to its location as soon as they leave the Great Plateau, you will need to first meet a specific requirement.

The Master Sword of Resurrection is in Korok Forest, which lies deep within Great Hyrule Forest. To reach it, players must first successfully make their way through the Lost Woods, after which they will soon meet the Deku Tree.

The sword was once created by the ancient Goddess, and can only be wielded against Calamity Ganon by the chosen knight. Which is you, if you hadn’t guessed.

The sword stands as a test to anyone that would dare attempt to possess it. With the Deku Tree warning that you would lose your life if you tried to free the sword in a weakened state, you must use your true strength to unsheathe it from its stone prison.

This will require that you have enough hearts to successfully reacquire it – 13 hearts, to be precise. These have to be Link’s base Heart Containers, increased by praying to the Goddess and exchanging four Spirit Orbs. Resting in comfort at inns or buffing Link with exquisite meals won’t count, so you will need to set out to complete as many Shrines as required.

Once you have 13 hearts, you can then return to the Korok Forest – the nearby Keo Ruug Shrine will act as a useful warp point – to return the Master Sword of Resurrection to your possession.
