No HD Rumble In The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild On Nintendo Switch

The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has confirmed that HD Rumble will not be supported in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Nintendo Switch.

The haptic feedback system has been touted as being able to deliver “a sense of touch that goes beyond mere vibrations,” promising players a more immersive gameplay experience on the console.

But, with Nintendo wanting to deliver a comparable experience on Nintendo Switch and Wii U, a decision was made not to look to implement it.

“Of course, if the game had been created exclusively for [Nintendo] Switch, we could have benefited from the particular features of the console, especially HD Rumble,” Aonuma admitted to Gameblog.

“It is quite extraordinary. For example, you can try to guess how many balls are hidden in the [Joy-Con] controller… that’s something I would have liked to have used.”

He continued: “But, the problem is that the purpose of the [Nintendo] Switch version was to provide exactly the same experience as on Wii U, and vice versa. If we had started to adapt the game to the [Nintendo] Switch features, it would not have been the same game. So, beyond the graphic differences, we did not really explore the specifics of the new console.”

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch and Wii U worldwide on March 3rd.
