Nintendo has confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will not support dual audio, news that has been met with immediate disappointment.

After the breathtaking trailer that was shown to close the Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017, many had hoped that with voice acting introduced to the series for the first time, they could choose to have English text with Japanese audio.

The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has confirmed that this won’t be possible, with such settings locked to whichever language you choose for the whole console. And, if you do choose Japanese, this will change the audio language but all in-game text will appear in Japanese, too.

“In the case of Nintendo Switch, if you change the language of the system, you can change the game to Japanese, but that will change everything to Japanese,” Aonuma clarified to IGN Portugal (Google Translate). “Unfortunately, it is not possible to play with English text and Japanese voices, for example.”

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will release exclusively on Nintendo Switch and Wii U on March 3rd.
