Engines will soon roar in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Nintendo Switch, as the anti-gravity racer makes a return in what Nintendo has positioned as “the definitive version.”

With Nintendo Switch, eight players can take each other on in local wireless multiplayer across all tracks and characters made available in the Wii U version – including the downloadable content.

Carrying itself beyond that, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe adds Splatoon’s Inkling Boy and Inkling Girl as well as King Boo, Dry Bones and Bowser Jr. to the busy character roster.

After it was lambasted on Wii U, Battle Mode has been improved. This now includes Balloon Battle and Bob-omb Blast modes, new courses like Urchin Underpass and Battle Stadium, and returning ones such as GCN Luigi’s Mansion and SNES Battle Course 1.

Players can now carry two items at a time, with more items returning from previous Mario Kart games such as item-stealing Boo and the Feather, which gives players a high jump in Battle mode.

There is also a new Smart Steering feature, suited to new players in making driving easier to help keep them on the track, even at 200cc.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will release exclusively on Nintendo Switch in Europe and North America on April 28th.
