It was at the Apple Special Event that Niantic CEO John Hanke announced that Pokémon GO would see release on Apple Watch.

Positioned as a companion app to the location-based game, it will track the distance that you have walked to help hatch Eggs, deliver alerts that prompt players to catch nearby Pokémon, and allow you to interact with PokéStops.

However, we haven’t heard much more about it since. After a rumour had emerged that Niantic had cancelled development, the developer has been prompted to simply share: “Pokémon GO for Apple Watch is coming soon. Stay tuned.”

Niantic has been hard at work on reinvigorating Pokémon GO, adding the first pocket monsters from Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver, Holiday Pikachu, Ditto, expanding the Nearby Pokémon feature to more regions, and welcoming Starbucks and Sprint as their first partners.
