With the rumour having emerged that the Nintendo Switch Console will support Micro SDXC cards, another has suggested that the Nintendo Switch Dock will not support external hard drives.

Let’s Play Video Games there are no plans to allow Nintendo Switch owners to use such drives as a means to expand their available storage.

That will understandably seem a strange move, given that even the ill-fated Wii U had let owners use an external hard drive. But, Nintendo is concerned that attaching a drive to the Dock will mean that the home gaming system will be seen as being less portable – an aspect that has already been at the forefront of their marketing.

It similarly complicates the system’s key benefit which, once the Console is lifted from the Dock, will see it instantly transition to handheld mode. Nintendo wants to make sure that data is only stored on the Console, to remove the need to sync or transfer games, save data, and other information between the Console and Dock.

Nintendo Switch will release worldwide in March 2017.
