Mojang and 4J Studios has announced plans to release “a last-minecrafter-standing deathmatch” mode for Minecraft Wii U Edition, called Battle.

The first in a number of mini games to be released, their hope is that it will help players to “compete under cool and crazy rulesets with minimum fuss.”

Players will race to secure weapons and resources from chests while dodging each arena’s perilous traps, as they fight against one another for their very survival.

With a shift to rapid tactical thinking and combat, there will be no need to worry about fussing about crafting – with weapons and armour equipped at the push of a button. Those that fall in battle can respawn as a bat to flutter around their enemies, pestering them by squeaking vengefully.

It will support up to four players in splitscreen and eight players online, either by invitation or using the in-game matchmaking system.

Battle will be released in June as a free update to Minecraft Wii U Edition, and will come with three deadly arenas. Map packs will arrive in future, which will be priced at $2.99 each.
