Nintendo has reportedly discontinued production of Nintendo DS Game Cards worldwide, calling time on their most successful handheld approaching 12 years after it first launched in Japan.

The Game Cards were developed by Nintendo, SanDisk and Macronix, and have a capacity that ranges between 8-512MB. Macronix manufactured the mask ROM chips that Nintendo chose to use for them, with the company now involved with whatever Nintendo NX will be.

“Bad News: Nintendo has discontinued production of DS carts worldwide Good News: VGP has a bunch of EXCLUSIVE DS GAME restocks coming in soon,” independent Canadian retailer Video Games Plus shared.

More than 947.85 million Nintendo DS games have been sold worldwide, which outpaces the Game Boy at 501.11 million copies. That will see it remembered as Nintendo’s most successful platform to date. It’s truly the end of an era.
