Nintendo has been true to their word, announcing that Miitomo and their My Nintendo rewards programme will launch in the west on Thursday 31st March.

That will see their first-ever smart device application roll out in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, United States, and Canada.

The free-to-start social experience has already been met with success in Japan, where it has already passed one million downloads. It will become available from the App Store for iPhone, iPod touch or iPad as well as Android devices, and will see players create their Mii before interacting with friends that have the app – whether that be in person, or by linking to existing Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Those that preregister for Miitomo by signing up for a Nintendo Account before 31st March 2016 will receive Platinum Points for My Nintendo, which is seen as a comprehensive service that will reward users “for interacting with Nintendo products and services in a variety of ways.”

Gold Points will be earned when purchasing downloadable games from the official Nintendo website or Nintendo eShop on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, which, along with Platinum Points, can be redeemed to collect rewards such as games, download content, in-app items and Nintendo eShop discounts.

Flipnote Studio 3D is being offered freely to those that sign up for a Nintendo Account before the end of April, which can be claimed once users link their new Nintendo Account to the Nintendo Network ID they use on their Nintendo 3DS. There will then be a download option on the Flipnote Studio 3D page on the official Nintendo website, which can be redeemed between 31st March – 30th April 2016.

I enjoyed the hour that I spent with Miitomo earlier this month, and you can read my hands-on preview to see how I found it!
