The Witness Eyes Release On Nintendo NX

The Witness has been another indie hit for creator Jonathan Blow, who has shared that the exploration-puzzler has grossed more than $5 million from the launch week’s sales alone.

Having initially confirmed plans to release on PC, PlayStation 4 and iOS, a Wii U port had been pondered way back in 2013 when Blow had added: “We just have to see. Once we have done iOS, a Wii U port would be somewhat easier… we just need to see if enough people own the console and are buying games on it at that time.”

Three years later, and the momentum behind the Wii U hasn’t dramatically changed. That has led to Blow reconsidering his stance, which now sees him waiting to see what Nintendo’s “dedicated game platform” will be.

“It is unlikely that we could do it on the Wii U, but we will see about the next Nintendo console,” Blow shared when asked if it was still being considered.

Nintendo NX’s reveal has been promised this year, with recent rumours mentioning Unity and Unreal Engine 4 support, Super Smash Bros. as a launch title and component supplier Macronix suggesting that it would release in 2016.

  1. “Next system” not NX. Would be nice if journalists could stop acting as if they know what the next system will be or what NX is.
