With Bayonetta and Corrin having become available in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS last week, Masahiro Sakurai has shared that he will now take a well-deserved “extended vacation” now that development has been completed.

“The last two DLC fighters for Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U, Corrin and Bayonetta, are now available,” Sakurai wrote in his Weekly Famitsu column (translated by Source Gaming).

“At long last, the development on Smash for has ended! To all of the staff who were involved in this project, thank you for all your hard work. To all who supported and followed the game and its development, thank you so very much. Personally, I’m happy I can finally take an extended vacation.

“I’ve said this before, but excluding Lucas and Roy, who are returning veterans, every DLC character has unique mechanics and playstyles. Corrin transforms into a dragon and boasts incredible reach. Bayonetta utilises special combos, her Bullet Arts, Witch Time, and even speaks in both English and Japanese.”

Sakurai went on to discuss the versatile playstyles that are present in the game, but how he never felt obligated to change “the fundamental rules of the game” as players wouldn’t be happy in him doing so. Instead, he realised that adding new fighters to the roster generated excitement, and, in introducing their own playstyles, in turn freshening each successive iteration.

As to what project he will work on next is unclear, but rumours recently surfaced that Super Smash Bros. will be a Nintendo NX launch title.

  1. There should be one final balancing patch that includes fixing ryu’s inputs with the A button. It is really annoying and makes you lose!!
