Nintendo of America has announced that the Nintendo World store on Rockefeller Plaza in New York will temporarily close on Tuesday 19th January to undergo a major renovation.

That work will take a month and in that time the store’s interior design will be updated with new Wii U and Nintendo 3DS demo units, a 15-foot gaming screen and a large bronze coin at the store entrance that will share the store’s tagline: “Where everyone comes to play.”

It will then reopen on Friday 19th February, rebranded as the Nintendo NY store and will host activities to celebrate the sparkling new design. Giveaways are promised, costumed characters such as Mario and Luigi will appear, and exclusive souvenirs will be sold over the weekend – which include a limited-edition t-shirt that features either Mario or Link.

“Nintendo is constantly evolving its experiences for fans,” comments Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales and marketing. “The new Nintendo NY store is a must-see location for anyone that has a memory of Nintendo, or who wants to see what Nintendo has in store for the future.”
