Investors have shown immediate concern after Nintendo announced that their mobile launch plans were delayed to March 2016, reflected in a sudden 9 percent drop in the company’s stock price.

But as always, it is an integral part of Nintendo’s plan. Speaking in an interview with Nikkei, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima shared that Miitomo will launch first because, as a communication application, it will encourage people to subscribe to their My Nintendo membership service.

“If we localise it into eight languages, we can expand it to over 100 countries,” Kimishima explained. “I want to do it as soon as possible. This is because our goal is to increase the number of My Nintendo members. It would be good if we reached one hundred or two hundred million members.”

We’ve only been shown the app’s communicative aspects, but in-app purchases will see users able to dress their Mii: “If you want to dress your Mii in certain outfits, it’ll be so that you can select and purchase them. Also, it will have game elements.”

Touching on Nintendo NX, Kimishima shared that the platform “offers a totally new experience” and that the company wanted it to build an install base far more quickly than Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. An even bolder assertion was that in three years time, he remarked: “There’s a potential for the biggest profits ever. I don’t think the Wii and the DS’s sales period is our ceiling.”
