Tatsumi Kimishima named as new Nintendo president

Nintendo has named Tatsumi Kimishima as the company’s new president, who succeeds the late Satoru Iwata after his tragically early death.

Kimishima has had a lengthy career which has spanned roles as The Pokémon Company’s chief financial officer and Pokémon USA’s president, the late Hiroshi Yamauchi appointed Kimishima as Nintendo of America president in 2002.

His new role will officially start on Wednesday 16th September, with Nintendo’s announcement listing that representative directors Shigeru Miyamoto and Genyo Takeda have been named as ‘Creative Fellow’ and ‘Technology Fellow’ respectively.

Such roles have been newly introduced at Nintendo, who explain that the positions reflect: “An individual selected from among the Representative Directors who has advanced knowledge and extensive experience, and holds the role of providing advice and guidance regarding organisational operations in a specialised area.”

Other appointments see director Shigeyuki Takahashi named as supervisor of Nintendo’s general affairs division, director Satoshi Yamato made the marketing division’s general manager, and director Shinya Takahashi appointed entertainment planning and development division’s general manager as well as supervisor of business development division, development administration and support division.
