Writing in his Weekly Famitsu column, Masahiro Sakurai has shared that “several more characters” are currently in development for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

He confirmed that Roy, Ryu and Lucas had been in development before Nintendo had announced the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot in April, and that those that remain in development will be purely “fan service.”

Asking for patience as they complete the content, Sakurai admitted that they “can’t keep the development team together forever” which makes it sound unlikely that we’ll see more content beyond that already promised.

“From now until the end it is going to be fan service, but I can’t keep the development team together forever so there’s only going to be several more characters,” Sakurai writes. “I also ask for your patience, as we need time to develop more content. There may be unforeseen circumstances that arise as well, but I’ll try my best!”
