Splatoon’s ink-based warfare has taken the world by storm, with Nintendo today announcing that the Wii U exclusive has sold more than one million copies worldwide.

The company’s internal figures break that down to more than 230,000 physical and digital units sold in Europe, more than 368,000 sold in Japan, over 476,000 sold in the Americas, and an additional 20,000 sold in Australia.

“Since Splatoon launched on 29th May, it has been great to see so many players competing in online matches”, comments Nintendo of Europe president Satoru Shibata.

“We are pleased this new Wii U exclusive game is capturing the imagination of so many fans across Europe, and look forward to bringing more exclusive titles to both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS this year.”
