Next Metroid Prime will “likely now be on Nintendo’s NX console”

Metroid Prime series producer Kensuke Tanabe has shared that if Nintendo were to green-light another console iteration, the necessary development time would likely mean that it would see release on their next “dedicated game platform“, codenamed NX.

That’s due to the amount of content that will be required to craft it to completion, with the project to take several years before it would eventually arrive at retail.

“If we started for Wii U now, it would likely take three years or so. So it would likely now be on Nintendo’s NX console,” Tanabe shared with Eurogamer.

“It’s a long time but it would need to include a lot of content, which would take a lot of work on the development side.”

As to whether Nintendo have anything else in the works Tanabe explained that he hadn’t looked to partner with a studio outside of Nintendo, and wasn’t sure if series co-creator Yoshio Sakamoto was working on anything Metroid-related separately.

He continued, “I’m the producer of the Metroid Prime series, and [Metroid series co-creator] Yoshio Sakamoto is the one in charge of Metroid itself. I’m not sure when he’s planning on making such an announcement so I can’t speak for him.

“I’m not thinking about anything like that [partnering with another studio] right now. We have nothing to announce on working with any specific team.”

That will be an inevitable shame to those that have been left waiting since 2007’s Metroid Prime 3: Corruption to see what’s next for Nintendo’s bounty hunter. But even more so, considering many had thought the Wii U GamePad would be an ideal way to scan surrounding enemies and items.

“It is a great idea, I agree,” Tanabe admitted. “Truth be told, making HD games takes a lot of time and resources. I haven’t been able to collect a team or the resources to do it.”

  1. And who will buy that console?
They promised us good games and innovative stuff on the Wii U.
Why would anyone buy a console, based on promises, when they can CLEARLY see,
that the last console from that company, didn’t keep ANY of their promises,
but instead gets trolled by Nintendo developers, like the whole “Ridley for Smash!” thing.
WHAT sane company insults their fans, because they want their content too much?
Thats like… your favorite band, getting mad, when at the end of a concert, people scream for more and try to follow them to their dressing rooms…
If you can’t handle Groupies, don’t get famous! Don’t have Fans, and then insult them every time you get a chance…
