Super Mario Maker delighted at Sunday’s Nintendo World Championships 2015, and expectedly formed a significant part in today’s Nintendo Digital Event.

Nintendo have revealed that they will release two special Mario amiibo figures – in Classic Colours and Modern Colours – to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. game.

When scanned in Super Mario Maker, these amiibo add a Big Mushroom power-up to your course that lets you grow and bust blocks from any direction, as well as adding a retro visual filter.

Many other amiibo are also compatible, and will let you use the Mystery Mushroom item. This will allow Mario to take the appearance of many other characters complete with their animations and sound effects, whether that be Link, Kirby or Wii Fit Trainer. These can be unlocked by completing the 100 Mario Challenge mode, as well as with each individual amiibo.

Those that purchase Super Mario Maker’s standard edition will receive an 100-page Hardcover Artbook that illustrates creative possibilities. Whereas a limited edition software bundle will include this, as well as a Mario (Classic Colours) amiibo from the Mario 30th Anniversary Collection.

Super Mario Maker will launch worldwide exclusively for Wii U on September 11th, with each amiibo from the Mario 30th Anniversary Collection become available standalone in winter 2015.
