Wii U and 3DS dominate Christmas sales in Japan

Nintendo have proved popular in Japan ahead of Christmas, with Media Create tracking that 196,361 3DS systems and 38,314 Wii U consoles were sold throughout last week.

3DS demand was spurred by Youkai Watch 2: Shinuchi, Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire and the newly launched Final Fantasy Explorers, which rounded out the top three in the software sales chart.

There were no less than 11 3DS titles in the top 20, with Wii U accounting for another three places with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Mario Kart 8 and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.
